I just wanted to put in a kudos for the new show, Friday Night Lights.
I watch very little series TV these days, as most of it is repetative and boring. Friday Night Lights is a true original.
A series that weaves the Christian faith into real-life - neither making Christians look like buffoons, or super pious, holier-than-thou demigods, is a real refreshing experience. Being a Christian, I struggle with the same things these people do, and try my best to live my faith the best way I know how - and I see that reflected in this show.
I certainly do hope that this show will be given every opportunity to find an audience.
Thanks - Mike

Please save “Friday Night Lights”. It is catching on slowly, but it has all the ingredients of a show that will last for years. Why does NBC threaten to pull the plug on everything good that they put out there, yet keep “Las Vegas” and “ER” which are tired, stupid and written for 12 year old children! The put money and talent into “FNL” AND “Studio 60″, but have the patience of a 2 year old when it comes to placing these shows and giving them time to find their audience. These shows are intelligent and beautifully written as was West Wing - yet they think T&A shows will garner them money (NOT respect). Jan Hangland, Seattle, WA

FNL should be put on at 9 or 10 pm. Who is home at 8 pm? We never even walk through the door most nights until after 8, and my kids are still in elementary school! The time slot is actually what is killing FNL. You think they’d have a brain there at NBC with the potential of FNL, but I guess not!

Please believe me——this has nothing to do what.so.ever with prayer. I was fortunate enough to be assigned the book: “Friday Night Lights” when I was a soc. masters major living in AK…………nothing summed up the drive, child control, and craziness of Texans than the book and now the excellent series.
Network——wanna help? some publicity, perhaps on Friday Nite would help. I am an adult ED. teacher from Seward and so help me you have captured the desperation of oilfield kids + sports+dead ends +

NBC,
Hello…character development! NBC, are you reading these posts? If so, how come you can’t translate loyal audiences into decent ratings. I agree with the earlier writer about the junk you seem to keep on TV yet you talk about cutting Studio 60 and FNL? Why?
You already let American Dreams get away from you. We need more shows about Americana like FNL and American Dreams. We can all relate…from 17 to 70 years old. Don’t lose this one; promote it, hype it, be patient, move it to 9pm or whatever it takes…but make it happen.

In all the years that I’ve watched TV, I have NEVER written a letter to save a show. But in this case, I felt compelled to do so since I’ve never seen a series like this one. It is SO GOOD that I love it, my husband loves it, my 22-year old daughter loves it and my daughter’s boyfriend loves it. And how many times can you watch a show with your husband and both look at each other afterwards and say, “That was a REALLY good show!” It has a great cast of characters, drama and comedy, wonderful stories, and makes you feel as though you actually know (and care) about these people. And, it has a very realistic feel like no other show on television. Not since the days of St. Elsewhere have I actually been telling all my friends that they HAVE to watch this very special show! In fact, I just got my sister to watch it and now she’s ready to sign a petition as well. So, just like Seinfeld, PLEASE give this show time to get a following. It is far too good to cancel!

I’d just like to let those in charge of programming at NBC know how thoroughly my husband and I enjoy Friday Night Lights, and how much we are hoping that NBC will continue to offer such quality television. As parents who are facing our own children’s “teen” years in the very near future, nearly every episode of FNL seems pertinent to our own lives. While we live in Chicago rather than Texas, the experiences presented in FNL are universal. The acting is top notch, the writing is breathtaking, and we look forward every week to Wednesday evenings when we can sit down together and share this amazing show!!
I want to thank NBC for having the strength to avoid yet another reality-based contest show (We have never watched a single episode of American Idol!!) to offer something so risky. Please - please - know that the fans are out there, we are incredibly loyal, and we will return for a second, third and more seasons of Friday Night Lights.

I’m taking time to ask that you continue to air the show,Friday Night Lights in is present form of excellence.
There are only a few programs of this caliber on television and most of those air on HBO.
The cast is super. The writing is among the best presented by any TV program. The camera work and production is always amazing!
Do not waste the talent offered to your network and we the viewers that this program provides.
I and my wife among many other loyal viewers beg NBC to continue this program and give it time to find the wider audience it needs. Maybe by moving it from competing with American Idol you accomplish that goal
Thank you,

I cannot believe this is even up for discussion. Friday Night Lights is fresh and original and is the BEST NEW SHOW ON TELEVISION. There is something for people of all ages (I am 49, but my 17 year old loves it too). And it does not matter if you like football or not. Everyone who loves it needs to post here and also go to nbc.com, click “Contact Us” at the bottom of the page, and send frequent emails to NBC reminding them of how much we love this show. I watch every week and also DVR it so I can watch it again later. Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler, and Taylor Kitsch are three among an exceptional cast. This show is believable because the characters are complex and flawed and are dealing with real issues. You are always left wanting to know more about them. You will be hooked if you watch just once. And you can see all the old episodes on nbc.com. Go to www.savefridaynightlights.com and sign the petition. Each of us needs to let nbc know that we care about this show and we need to let them know OFTEN. Otherwise we will be stuck with more awful reality shows, big city crime shows (Oh my God, how many of those can we stand?) and that boring Dateline NBC (I am sick of that show popping up all the time in place of something better). Keep Friday Night Lights!!!!!!!

I am 57 and I watch the show each week with my 17-year-old daughter who will head off to a prestigous college next fall and watch the program if it’s still on the air. NBC has a great show and a dedicated audience of talented viewers who will provide them with a way to build the audience for the program if they solicit our support. Why not request ideas? User generated content could provide them with a way of generating the interest the show deserves. Ask the show’s devoted fans to create and participate in a contest designed to attract an audience. That alone could generate sufficient buzz, particularly if the network uses its local affiliates and legions of television writers who love the show to help promote the contest to attract the audience.

I can’t believe this show is being threatened. I came from a high school football town. The show does a great job of realistically portraying the mentality and culture of many small towns across America. All of eastern Ohio and western PA should be able to relate. Put more effort into the PR, target it to the right areas, move it to a different time slot, and the audience will come.

In talking to people, I have found 85-year-olds, 50-year-olds, and 20- year-olds that all have been not only watching this show but looking forward to watching it each week, many even using Tivo so as not to miss it when their schedules did not allow them to be home to watch it at its regular time. This show has many good values that can be imparted to people of all ages and the acting is wonderful. It is very disappointing to hear that it is to be canceled. Please consider moving it to another day so as not to have it running against Idol and it will probably be a big hit for your company.

Please do not cancel this show. It is a show that the entire family can view together. It shows multidimensional characters who are struggling with good and evil. Luckily good wins out often in this show. Take the character of Matt. He is a boy who would have been overlooked in high school if he had not had the opportunity the play football. What we see is a boy who is responsible and level headed. He is a winner. We need more positive role models like the ones in this show. Please do not cancel this show. Find a regular spot for this show and promote it. Give people time to find this wonderful show.

Everything about this show is done perfectly. It is a testament to what can be achieved artistically through the medium of television. It isn’t often that a show like this comes along and its a shame more people haven’t tuned in. Everyone I know who gives it a chance is hooked instantly. I hope NBC will give it the chance it deserves. If they could just get people to tune in, they would know right away why they kept it around. This show is about life… its about hope… and it uses football brilliantly to drive these bigger stories forward. It deserves to stay on the air if only to prove that television does not have to be disposable entertainment… that art can exist there too.

I’m still not over the shows like Surface and so many others that have been canceled over the past two years. Just move the show to another night, away from American Idol.
FNL is a very realistic show. It deals with so many things that high school kids and their families go through on a daily basics. I’m 34 and I love it. It’s been a long while since a good quality show has been on… Not since American Dreams and that was axed too.
Please give the show a second season and move it AWAY from American Idol PLEASE…

Best writing on TV now that STUDIO 60 may get yanked, too. These people are completely believable, outstanding casting, emotionally and spiritually touching, fantastic plot lines. It is like watching an outstanding novel–think Larry McMurtry–in which you are intrigued by every story line. I have not watched a series consistently in a decade or more, and adore FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and STUDIO 60. Somebody in commercial broadcasting must begin to care for viewers with more serious taste or our culture is going to continue its serious downward slide.
Five family members are telling everyone we know about this show. It needs one more year, and marketing to “non-football” types. The football aspect is just a metaphor for the game of life.
And yes, it is one of the few shows addressing practical spiritual solutions without preaching.
Please NBC, have the courage of your convictions to stand behind good writing!! I will also ditto these feelings for keeping STUDIO 60.

I am appauled that NBC would even entertain the idea of canceling Friday Night Lights. TV executives are BRILLIANT people who cleverly conspire to kill an inspiring show like Friday Night Lights, and many others that have met their fate at NBC like “American Dreams.”
Kyle Chandler (ooooooo,Baby) is an outstanding actor, (easy on the eyes, too) and has a fabulous supporting cast. You become part of this show when you watch because it is THAT good. The genre of this show is for every demographic. There’s enough potential for Friday Night Lights to keep it going for 8 more years!!
Come on, NBC!!! Here’s a novel idea (sarcasm), when Friday Night Lights returns in the fall, put the show ina FRIDAY NIGHT SLOT!!! Do you watch Saturday Night LIVE on Thursdays?

This is indeed the BEST show on TV in many, many years. One of the reasons I love this show so much is because I have an only child. Only children often unfairly receive negative stereotypes (e.g. spoiled, antisocial, selfish, lonely, etc), NONE of which are actually true. Two of the main characters on this show are only children (Julie Taylor and Matt Seracen are examples), and both characters are very positive examples of all of the more truthful qualities of onlines: extremely bright, confident, indepedent, and mature. My husband and I watch this show, and almost every week we find ourselves either crying or laughing (depending on the theme) over how well-written and true-to-life the interaction is between Coach Taylor and his wife, and their daughter Julie. We LOVE this show for that, and so many other reasons. I hope NBC pulls their heads out and realizes they will be making ANOTHER huge mistake in the same vein as the last time they made a completely bogus cancellation move when they dumped 2001’s brilliant Freaks and Geeks.

There are few things I can personally relate to in Friday Night Lights, I’m not from Texas, never played football, grew up in an affluent suburb, and had a large, supportive family, yet, Friday Night Lights is the only program on television that I can see the arts of film, acting, and writing reflect and relate to the truths in life. I truly believe that FNL can bring back the popularity of the written television program, which, for a decade now, has been dominated realty t.v. and contentless programming. It is so refreshing to see characters with depth, emotions on their sleeve, portraying persons with whom, even me, can relate to. With every episode I am blown away by the characters, the writing, the artistic direction, the music, and most importanly the moral, racial, and social issues the show has the guts to discuss. If NBC were to drop FNL, my faith in current TV, which has already taken a hit with the loss of Arrested Development, would be lost. If that were to happen, I could see myself boycotting NBC, with the exception of televised sporting events.
I hope most that FNL cleans up at the Emmys, that it gets all the awards and praise it’s due, and that alone will be cause to keep the show and current cast alive.

I love this show, and hope that we get to see a season 2. I think that it’s really a victim of small mistakes, and that frustrates me immensely.
Specifically, the early season mock documentary look probably cost the show a few viewers who found the jerky camera work literally physically nauseating.
Second, The early marketing was too heavily aimed at football viewers. This was an easy trap to fall into: NBC is finally back in the football business, and this show was an obvious tie-in, but it significantly mis-sold the show. It isn’t about football any more than it’s about oxygen.
Third, the producers missed a golden opportunity to show us the viewers that this isn’t just a football show by filming a pilot with significantly more football than usual. I believe they should have started the show in the summer before the season. It would have given an opportunity to introduce the characters, to show us just how much football means to the town, and to get us invested in Jason Street’s career. It would have increased the emotional impact of Street’s injury, and have made Saracen’s success that much more redemptive. And a football season without two-a-days just seems wrong.

I love Friday Night Lights and I think more people would love it if they knew the show existed. NBC needs to do a better job promoting the show and take lessons from Fox and how they promote shows like 24.

Friday night lights is one of the most realistic, well written shows on T.V. today. Although it is a very different show, it reminds me of West Wing in the quality of production and writing. Please give it time. Like West Wing, which I started watching because of word of mouth and never missed an episode after, Friday Night Light will catch on once word of mouth spreads as to the show’s quality. If you cancel FNL, it’ll just go to show how stupid American have become, valuing shows like “Are you smarter than a 5th grader?” over well developed meaningful show like FNL and give credence to what Judd Hirsch said on another great NBC show, Studio 60. “there’s always been a struggle between art and commerce. And now I’m telling you art is getting its *** kicked. And it’s making us mean, and it’s making us bitchy. It’s making us cheap punks. That’s not who we are! People are having contests to see how much they can be like Donald Trump?”
Please give FNL a chance and some time to grow.

Oh and its time should really be changed. If ER could please just die, FNL could take the Thursday night 10pm slot, and NBC would have Thursday nights back. Tell me who wouldn’t want to watch Earl, office, 30 Rock, scrubs, and FNL all in one night. Now that is a great night of TV!

Please do not cancel Friday Night Lights. It is not only well written, but beautifully shot. The way the camera shoots the action, I feel like I am right there with the characters. And speaking of characters, the many close-ups of the actors’ faces show real emotion that make the characters real just like people we I know in my own home town. Never have I liked a show so much and believed in it.And yes, I am a Christian and do appreciate finally someone on TV giving the majority of Americans who are practicing Christians a chance to see Christianity in practice on the TV screen.
DO SOME ADVERTIZING, NBC, AND LET MORE PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THE ARTISTIC VALUE OF THIS SHOW. THERE ARE INTELLIGENT VIEWERS OUT THERE, YOU KNOW.

Please save this great show NBC! This is one of the best shows since American Dreams. Don’t cancel one of the best shows that’s on this season. I’m so sick of American Idol winning its time slot week after week. If you give FNL a chance at a second season, I’m sure it’s viewership will indcrease. This is the only series that I have ever loved and craved to watch every week. Ever.
The characters are so relatable and the drama is REAL! None of this fake OC nonsense or reality TV. I don’t watch TV anymore because of the lack of good shows. Friday Night Lights was hardly even promoted! No one I go to school with even knew what it was until I told them about it. You have got to just give it a chance to spread. The first season has been so amazing, please don’t give up on it yet! Not to mention, that most TV shows don’t become a big hit until later seasons! Then people go back and buy the early seasons on dvd. DON’T GIVE UP! PLEASE!

Dear NBC, Please renew FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! Viewership polls do not tell the whole tale. I have so many friends, young and old, who watch FNL on NBC, as well as on DVR and VCR. This show depicts much life truth and it is so refreshing to watch a television show that genuinely portrays slices of small-town life without the violence, crime scene investigations or silliness of multitudes of other programs with which we are inundated.
The technical aspects are intriguing but are not the primary reason I am glued to the television set every Wednesday evening. The characters are so creatively developed that they regularly elicit love, hate and sympathy. With too many favorites to name them all, I am compelled to laud Zach Gilford who plays Matt Saracen perfectly as the shy, inexperienced tag-along high school nobody who slowly comes into his own. The scripts and characters seem to be taken right out of my 60’s high school days, as well as my niece’s 21st century stint in high school. Even though football is king in Texas, thank goodness it does not overshadow this thoroughly entertaining hour. NBC - be smart - keep one of your best shows!

This show is truly one of the most decent, real-life dramas on television. It covers things in life that everyone has went through at one point whether if it was when you were in highschool, or even as adults with kids in highschool. Everyone can relate to this show, and the acting is probably the best I’ve seen in a long time. If NBC cancels this show, I will lose all respect for television today, because honestly this show has qualities that NEED to be kept on TV for no reason other than it is good for people to watch–it’s not TV trash that we see too often today. It is seriously a show more people need to start watching. A second season is a must, and a permanent night is also a must so people can actually sit down and watch it. I swear I will boycott NBC if this show gets cancelled.

This is the only network show I make sure to keep my schedule free for (and I have Tivo).
Please bring it back (and cancel the junk on TV like according to jim).
FNL has believable characters, outstanding writing, and innovative camera work. It’s as if I’m watching a HBO drama… that’s how good it is. American Idol has no class yet it can conjure 35 million votes. Unfortunately NBC has put the best drama on TV against the worst (but bigger ticket) drama.
FNL is inexpensive to produce so bury the hatchet. Give it a few more years!
P.S. Fat, lazy men don’t get hot wives and make tons of stupid, selfish errors and get away with it. So stop making tv shows about them.

I didn’t miss a show all season, in part thanks to TIVO. As a retired school teacher, I found this show to be so true to “coming of age” in small town America. As a Texan, I thoroughly enjoyed the program, but I am sure anyone, anywhere, could relate to the real-life stories we saw every week. I would like to see this program continued for a few more seasons. We need more good shows like this one.

Hi, I’m a 27 year old professional living in Chicgo, Il., but originally from Fort Smith, Ar. It was a fluke that I started watching Friday Night Lights this season, as I’m only an occasional football fan, and I hadn’t had much interest in the movie version of the story.
But, Wow. Kyle Chandler, anchored by Connie Britton, is giving one of the greatest television performances I’ve seen, maybe since Robert Duvall in Lonesome Dove. The balcony scene in the final episode actually brought tears to my eyes (this is confidential right?).
Please, bring this show back for another season. I know, and have heard of quite a few folks who didn’t start watching the show early enough, and are now waiting for the DVD’s to watch it for the first time. Once they have, I gurantee you a larger audience for a second season.

My husband and I love the movie Friday Night Lights. So when we saw that you were making a series of it, we were skeptical-how could it possibly be as good as the movie?
Oh how we were wrong to be concerned! The series is wonderful, and is one of only two television shows we watch. It is the only television we watch together. We rush to get the kids in bed so we don’t miss even a minute. The characters are wonderful and completely believable - you can feel for the characters, good and bad - because you see dimension in them. Coach Taylor and his family are believable as a loving family unit, not like a couple actors thrown together.
My husband and I are certainly not old-fashioned or prudes (35 and 41), but it is wonderful to be able to watch a show that isn’t centered around sex or death (the occurrence, the solving, the exploitation).
Please renew this show another season. Everything about it is appreciated and enjoyed, and it has two die-hard fans here.

It’s about so much more than football; it’s about people, living, what seem to be such real lives, figuring things out. The acting is wonderful. I am an adult who cannot stomach shows like the OC, and I can promise you, this show is not just another teenage drama. I grew up during the 90210 days, and though I loved it then, I can’t even watch the re-runs as an adult, and I love this show. It is above par in every way. I hope we get to see more!

NBC is doing a great job of saving television. Friday Night Lights is a great quality series that for once, has something for the entire family. It has been years since I’ve seen a good family show. Too many shows out there are not only mimicking one another, but they are also ignoring large demographics. People will watch what they hear about, no matter how good or bad the show is, and that’s why I feel that this show doesn’t get promoted/publicized enough. I live in Hollywood and I’ve seen plenty of banners for Heroes, Dexter, Bionic Woman, Lost, CSI, American Idol, Dancing With The Stars, etc. Some of those shows are good, and some of them are just forced. But I do not see anything for Friday Night Lights. How is this show supposed to get ratings if the advertising just isn’t there? Where is the love for the people who just want to watch a good quality family drama without having to solve a mystery about someone’s death, see desperate people and washed up celebrities seek their fifteen more minutes of fame, or witness another diva gain supernatural powers and fight crime? We’ve seen plenty of that. Let’s market something real.

A lot of what needs to be said has been mentioned in the above comments. With that, I am voicing my hope that this show continues to remain on TV. Viewership has been an issue, which I can understand, but I feel with the release of the DVD’s the show has really taken off and hit a mainstream audience. I don’t know the reason why people weren’t watching (bad time slot?) but to see what I feel is the best show on TV go off the air would be a shame. There is not a single flaw in the show from my perspective, and I am hard pressed to believe that TV executives can top this show after seeing the new fall shows that have been released.

As good as this show is, despite the title, it would obviously draw a greater audience particularly among the younger demographic if it WERE NOT ON FRIDAY NIGHT! yeah, it seems obvious that’s when it should air, but come on FOX, just like the show indicates. High School Football in Texas is a frickin’ religion, so guess where the majority of potential fans are in the fall at airtime on Fri nites? at the real football game!!!…big duh! What airhead genious TV exec thought just because Fri nite is in the title means that when it has to be aired? yeah, most people have a DVR or Tivo, but we all know you’re not going to record something if you’ve never seen it. Football season starts b4 the fall tv shows, so they never get a chance to get hooked! What a bunch of idiots!! Isn’t that the first rule when a show gets low ratings? can you say reschedule? Put it on at a time when most people, particularly teenagers & recent high schoolers are actually home to see it & give it a chance! This is a killer show that deserves a chance, but is being killed by it’s scheduling. I’m going to be extremly pissed if it goes off air because TV execs are too stupid to realize where their fan base is at 8:00 on Fri nites in the fall. It just blows my mind they are that stupid!!!!!

Whats up with this crazy site where the most recent posts are on the bottom? and can anybody remove all the weird postings from the various people that “don’t understand the article?” especially the foul language lesbians please?! by the way Big Fan, it’s NBC, not Fox, but that’s OK, point well taken…probably cause if you’re like me you don’t watch much else on NBC. NBC, this is the only show you’ve got going for you. xcpt occasionally Leno, but then you want to move that unfunny, weird moron Conan into this sacred spot formerly occupied by St. Carson….sorry, off topic. Friday night lites has heart, character, values, exceptional acting & writing (so give the writers what they deserve while we’re on the subject) oh yeah, we’re not, off topic again, sorry. PLEASE don’t take away FNL, this is a show that could & should stay on for 10 years if you start working on characters that can move in & be realistically around that long. NBC, you will be boycotted by many I’m sure if you cancel FNL, not that there is much else to watch on your network that is worth 1 minute of time. Seriously, can whoever monitors this website switch it to ascending or is it descending? anyway, most recent first & delete the vulgar lesbian names & irrelevant comments. I agree with Big Fan, I also live in Texas, but even if I didn’t, most people with lives aren’t home watching TV on Fri nites.

There isn’t that many honestly great shows on tv so please give this show a better chance to prove itself because it has so many fantastic things about it and if i can know that all the way down here in Australia then i’m sure a lot more Americans will figure it out given the chance too!

I just discovered FNL after hearing a friend rave about it. I had read all the critical acclaim but initially wasn’t sure it was for me. During the writers’ strike I decided it would be a good time to watch the 1st season DVD. I watched the whole thing within a week (!) as I was mesmerized and fell in love with the earnest, real characters. I see a lot of people describing the Christian angle; I myself am a non-religious and liberal sort, but I think the values espoused in this show are universal and important. Please keep this wonderful show on the air. I am doing my best to get all my friends in Chicago to watch! Save this great program!!!!!

Hey guys. Some fans are getting together to fight for our favorite show FNL. We want to show Ben Silverman and the network just how passionate FNL fans are and how much we want to keep our beloved show on air. The campaign is to send NBC mini-footballs (like ones you would get a high school game) to get our point across in a way that’s memorable. There’s some really great ideas being discussed on how to show our support for this show.
If you wanna check out what’s going on or would like to join the fight, check out http://www.savefnl.com

I didn’t think this show would ever need people fighting to save it…It’s absolutely perfect!!! We can’t let it go off the air…Why aren’t people watching it? Seriously, it’s so REAL, with the dialogue, camera work…
I think it must be the time slot…

We love Friday Night lights, one show me and my husband like and watch together. It is a show that brings us together instead of him playing video games or on the computer.

I love Friday Night Lights! I want to see it stay on the air. We have so few quality shows and this one is special because it is multi-generational.

please don’t take this show off and leave me with another stupid, boring reality show with no-bodies who want their 5 minutes of fame. this is THE best show on television and i can’t bear to think that it won’t return. what are you people thinking? seriously, get rid of The Apprentice and put FNL on in it’s place. the time slot is probably the reason why it’s not getting the ratings that it should, and not everyone owns a tivo or dvr these days. Please, please PLEASE keep Friday Night Lights on.

FNL is a great show. I started watching during Christmas break of Season One and loved the show so much that I went online and watched all eight plus episodes so I would be caught up. My friends and I love it. We are women in our 40’s. Please give us a third season.
I am also a huge fan of Jericho and was a part of the Nuts campaign.
There’s so much junk on TV. Please keep this worthy show going.

Please, PLEASE don’t take Friday Night Lights off the air. My husband and I watch it faithfully. We love the storyline and all the characters, and the fact that it doesn’t revolve around violence and killing. It’s our favorite show.
