Friday Night Lights is quality television on the wrong night! Most Americans would rather watch a stupid dancing show on Tuesday nights, so please NBC, either give FNL a chance after DWTS is over, or move it to Monday nights. The story lines are wonderful and so is the acting. This show has class and shouldn’t be tossed away!

Most people do not think of women watching football much less a football TV series. In fact, my husband who is a flag-football coach (for 8 yrs.) and who will probably take over the 11-12yr. olds next year, has not been able to watch it yet - due to football practice! But I am not interested in football because of being the Athletic Director’s wife. I have been a football fan since I was a child. I use to watch the pros with my dad and one year I won a bet (with my uncle) when the Cowboys beat the Broncos in the Super Bowl (’70s). Now, I am a huge Tennessee Vol fan and have come to love watching kids playing for the meaning of the game and for the mere love of the game and not for the $$. I love to see supporting parents, although the competitive ones and the town pride parade make it interesting. PLEASE ADD MY NAME TO THIS PETITION! NBC: DO NOT TAKE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS OFF TV!!!!!!!!!!! Even we women love this program.!

This show is well-produced and appeals to those who love football, family drama, and coming of age stories. The characters are believable and clearly develop from week to week. Dropping this show to make room for “Who Eats the Most Bugs” or “Dancing/Singing/Juggling with Celebrities” — or any other ratings-grabbing mind-numbing “reality” trash — would be a travesty.

Friday Night Lights is my favorite show of the year. To say that the stories are real would be an understatement. Instead, I would say that the stories and characters are true. Every scene is a moment of truth in life — a crush on a girl, a horrible accident and the aftermath, learning how to play politics so you can just keep your job.

Every week the characters linger in my mind and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

FNL is the show that I look forward to the most every week. It’s the only show that I can watch without my son bothering me. I make him get ready for bed and put on a movie so he doesn’t have to come into the living room and interrupt me. I love this show soooooooo much. Not to mention that Kyle Chandle is the hottest thing EVER to look at!!!! Please don’t take it off the air. Please keep this thing going, if not for the teenagers to watch, then for the mom’s to watch and remember when they were in high school. Thanks. We love you Kyle!!!!

FNL is the best new show in a REALLY long time. There is no question that NBC should renew it for next season. Sometimes great shows need a little time (and a good time slot) to pick up steam, give this show a chance. FNL is beautifully written, directed and filmed, shows like this don’t come around that often and must be appreciated. Save FNL!!!

a campaign to save fnl is also being started in the forums over at televisionwithoutpity.com. we are emailing and sending packages to nbc:

    1) email jamie.french@nbcuni.com with the subject “don’t mess with friday night lights”. tell him you love and watch the show and don’t want to see it cancelled.

    2) send a care package to:

    Kevin Reilly
    President
    NBC Entertainment
    3000 W. Alameda Ave.
    Burbank, CA 91523

most people are sending a package that contains the following: a bottle of “clear eyes” eye drops, cutout hearts (”full hearts”), a mini football with “can’t lose our friday night lights” written on it, and a handwritten (or typed and hand-signed) letter telling nbc not to cancel fnl.

more details, including where to get hearts and footballs, can be found on the fnl forum on televisionwithoutpity.com, here:

    http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3151213&pid=7115825&st=30&#entry7115825

**we’re trying to have the packages and emails both arrive around march 1st

the more people participate, the better chance we have. thanks!

FNL is one of the very best shows on. The writing, directing and the awesome actors bring a special hour to TV each week. NBC needs to do more to support the show that they know is terrific. They need to work harder to find the right time slot and do a better job with the PR.
They might even consider throwing away the suitcases!

I wasn’t planning on watching this show because I’m not a big football fan. I happened upon the pilot and was impressed by the richness of the story and the characters. I “watch” a lot of shows while doing other things around the house, but this is one show I will sit down and really watch. It would be a shame to lose such a quality program after just one season.

Shows like Friday Night Lights do not come along often, but when they do, they should be allowed to continue. Shows such as this are cream of the crop. Shows such as this deserve to win all manners of awards, from writing to acting to directing. As far as drama is concerned, there is only one other show that is in the same caliber as Friday Night Lights and that show is the universally-lauded The Wire.
Each week, Friday Night Lights leaves me breathless at one moment, speechless at another, and in tears the next. Each week. Every single one.
I know shows need to find an audience, but Friday Night Lights HAS found an audience. An audience of tv viewers who realize that what they are seeing is just as good, and more often than not better than what is being released on the big screen. So please, reward this audience and allow Friday Night Lights to continue. The audience will be there.

This is the best acted drama on tv this year. It is very real and the characterizations are unbelievably true and convincing. I am so disappointed that NBC has not promoted and hyped this show as they could have… they have made it seem like a teen football show.. something for the WB.. and that couldn’t be more inaccurate. It is wonderul. Please don’t let this one go… promote it and give it a chance to be an American favorite, which I know it can be.

This is what I sent NBC:

First of all, thank you for committing to an entire season of this excellent show. You could have pulled the plug when the early ratings were weak, and you didn’t. Kudos for that.

Second, I love this show in spite of the fact that although I am a straight adult male, I am not now nor have ever been a football fan. What I am is a person who loves good, nuanced drama and who grew up in a small town. Kansas rather than Texas, but close enough. I know the people on this show. I recognized Buddy Garrity (to name just one) the moment I saw him in the pilot. As so many critics have pointed out, this show is about the people, not the game. These are wonderful, three-dimensional, true-to-life characters, and we as viewers care about what happens to them.

This show gets so many things right, from its dead-on ear for dialogue to the accurate, insightful performances of everyone in the cast — even one or two-line bit parts — that I am in awe each time I watch it. Again, thank you for giving us an early commitment to a full season and please bring it back next year. It is without question the best new show on broadcast TV, maybe the best period.

I have been an American Idol fan since the second season but this year I am tired of it - milking the singers’ performances and comments, the endless commercials, the predictable critiques from Randy, Paula and Simon. I would MUCH rather watch Rriday Night Lights where characters are interesting, dully formed and human and the story lines are true to life and stimulate thought. I hope NBC keeps it on the air.

This is BY FAR the best show on TV! I can’t see NBC cancelling the show–it is it’s best chance for this year’s Emmys in my opinion. Connie Britton has the Emmy for Best Actress all tied up. What they should do is release the show on DVD this summer, let word spread, see it win Emmys, and bring it back next year after “Heroes”. It would be like what happened to “24″, which took a long time to get started too.

Give it another season for people to see that it is more than football. The characters are very real and fun to watch. There are real issues addressed that can give parents and teens something to think about. A drama is a nice change from reality tv and prime-time game shows. Please keep this one.

This show is the best around right now! Please give it a season TWO! The characters and the setting is so real. This is really what goes on regarding a football team in small town Texas.

Your problem with the low ratings is because you havent been promoting it on air like you do Heroes, most non-viewers have the misconception that its only about football (not that that’s a bad thing, but its just not everyone’s cup o’ tea). So please renew it, promote the heck out of it and find a time slot and stick with it. I personally would prefer Monday after Heroes (I’m really bored with The Black Donnellys), but Friday night wouldn’t be so bad either.

Oh yeah the coach taylors’ wife, Tami Taylor she keeps the show grounded. This is one of the best shows on TV. We look forward to Wednesdays @ 7 pm. Few TV shows these days are actually compelling to watch, with the exception of most of the HBO series’ and a few on other Premium stations (Showtime, for instance). It seems that network television is losing the battle of entertaining, intelligent, original content. But Friday Night Lights makes me think maybe there’s still some life in network tv, and specifically NBC. If ratings are low, it’s because the marketing focuses heavily on it being a “High-School Football” melodrama; which it isn’t. I think much of the promotion actually dumbs it down, to appeal to potential viewers who are into the OC, or miss the later (less interesting) days of Dawson’s Creek. Friday Night Lights has much more to say than most teenage-audience programming like those, and far more to identify with. It’s better than most Emmy award winning shows, and I hope NBC realizes what they have, and keeps it around long enough that it may win some of those awards, and gain much deserved popularity.

Please keep the show. My wife and I do not watch very much TV, but we DVR Friday Night Lights, Extreme Makeover - Home Edition and Days of Our Lives. We really look forward to getting to watch Friday Night Lights together. I played football in high school and my wife was on the drill team. We grew up in a town in Arkansas that is a little bigger than the one on the show, but the town was all about high school football. So, we really get into the story line. We really enjoy the show and would be disappointed if it is cancelled.

I really want to see NBC give Friday Night Lights another season. It needs a good time slot that does NOT pit it against Dancing or American Idol in order to have an opportunity to attract an audience.

As to why it should be saved……this is the most uplifting, life-affirming show I have seen on television in a long time. No character is purely good or purely bad, but rather shades of gray as you can see (and yet not necessarily agree with) everyone’s point of view. Moreover, even though I grew up in the city (Miami) I find it to be a real slice of Americana………a reflection of what is good about the USA. Blemishes……….for sure, but we struggle on to improve and do the right thing! Long live Friday Night Lights!

I wrote NBC, but forgot to “copy” my comments on this board. Basically, my thoughts revolve around demographics. I’m a Californian…always been a Californian. As such, I admit there have been times when I “looked down” on small-town middle america, grouping them as hillbillies or bible-thumping Bush wannabes. Watching this show though - it sucks me in so much that I find myself realizing that this town is not that different than most towns/cities across America. The problems that high school children face - pressure to succeed, sex, broken homes - are universal and addressed in this series beautifully.

I will be more disappointed in NBC than ever before if FNL is not renewed for at least one more season. It takes time for the general public to get connected to such complicated characters. Give it one more season….please.

The acting is superb, the writing is wonderful, and the character development is infinitely better than any program on network television. All of these factors combine to make Friday Night Lights, in my estimation, well worth keeping on the air to make up for all the schlock i.e. “reality shows” that seem to be proliferating. Thank you for making such a wonderful show, please don’t take it off the air!

FNL is the best show that NBC has had since ‘Friends’. I mean really, does 30 Rock or Studio 60 even compare to the heartfelt storyline behind each of the characters on FNL? I think not. If you want to cancel a show how about you cancel one of them. I use to watch Studio 60, but that became so utterly boring that I had to not watch it anymore. You can actually relate to the people in FNL and after every show it just leaves you wanting to know whats going to happen on next weeks episode. If NBC isn’t getting very good ratings its because they dont push the show as they should. They need to stop making the promos all about football and show some scenes that show what the show is really all about. Its a show about people and football just so happens to be the driving force. I love Friday Night Lights and I will greatly be disappointed if NBC cancels it.

We got hooked on the show when Bravo played a marathon on New Years weekend. We’d heard of the show but never checked it out. Hi,
I am a female high school algebra teacher, with a great love for football. This television show requires no love of football to become addicted to watching it.
The program paints a picture of everyday life in Middle Town, America. The show clearly illustrates issues dealing with drugs, sex, disabilities, falling in and out of love, education, alcohol, divorce, and decision-making.
Just when you think an episode was the best you could have ever imagined, the topic of the next week is even better.
In my opinion, this program could be part of a psychology/sociology class, allowing the students to witness and discuss how problems are handled.
Being 52 years old, I have seen plenty of televesion. Finding worthwhile tv is another story.

I understand a show has to make money; surely the American public will eventually find this brilliant program. Please bring FNL back!!! This is the best show on tv - the writing, actors and filming are all so good!! It is also refreshing to see a “functional” family like the Taylors - who may argue and have normal parent/child disagreements but OBVIOUSLY love each other so much. Please, please, please, please, PLEASE MORE!!!!

Please don’t take Fiday Night Lights off the air. This show is so much better than the drivel you usually have on your station. Cancelling this show would be an indication of why NBC is falling in the ratings. Finally NBC had a great family show with wonderful lessons for teens and adults as well and THIS is the show that you choose to take off the air!!

I have never been so involved in a T.V.show is quite some time and it seems like every show i start to like, gets cancelled. Please keep FNL on NBC! If NBC doesn’t want it, maybe another channel will be smart and pick it up. BUT PLEASE LEAVE IT ON!

Where were you guys when Freaks and Geeks was cancelled? FNL is a great show too but NBC no longer has a good track record of listening to fan petitions!! (Despite Hilll Street Blues and Cheers)

FNL needs a slight fix, namely MORE FOOTBALL!! The fact is that it is losing male viewership due to the fact that it is now more romantic drama than anything else.

    Typical NBC these days…

Remember a couple of years ago a show called “American Dreams” that had a great following, family values and star power? Seem familiar…Cancelled!

Here is reality. NBC is lagging financially, had recent management shuffling, so therefore will not commit to any shows.

But, how can you only give a show one year? That is horrible…Maybe all of the top cats at NBC should only get a one year trial period, have all of their friends and family vie for them, and still get fired!

For the love of all that is holy and sacred, bring this show back for another season. This show by far has some of the most in depth characters, best writing, and captivating storylines on the entire landscape of television. Now, despite the fact I work six days a week and have obligations to two other places both writing and editing, I watch a LOT of television…basically:

    Dear NBC,

There is no way in Hell you should cancel this. You will find a way to keep the story going, and we will continue to find a way watch. You should really allow this show be an intrigal part - along with others like Black Donnelly’s, Heroes, Scrubs, Earl, Office, ER, 30 Rock, and Studio 60 - of being the #1 Network.

    Love,

    James

Friday Night Lights is one of the few quality shows on during the week. Its one I never miss. Both my husband and I think it’s well written and we really enjoy the characters. Why would NBC cancel one of its few decent shows? We’re so sick of reality tv, we watch none of it. Even my 29 year old daughter and her husband have become fans. So the show crosses over generations. So here’s my vote to renew Friday Night Lights for another season.

Pleeeease keep this show on the air. Perhaps you can have the characters on The VIew to get publicity. I began watching FNL after Rosie O’Donnel spoke so highly about it one day on The View.

The show teaches so many tweens and teenagers so many good lessons without being preachy. My husband and I are in our mid 30’s and are avid fans. The bi-polar story line is important for young people to see as was the story about Smash and his steroids. Each character has such valueable interesting lessons that inadvertantly entail wonderful messages sent to kids and teenagers.

FNL is a powerful show, and one that NEEDS more publicity to find a bigger audiance. Please keep it on.
