Season 2 Needs Saving!

So…it was a great offseason.

Friday Night Lights got renewed for a second season.

And it’s set to start this Friday…

Friday? What are you doing NBC? Are you trying to kill the show?

Rumors are flying that once again Friday Night Lights may get the ax early this year. NBC went out on a limb to give the show a second season, but just like Rex Grossman, if it doesn’t put up the numbers…it’s gonna get canned.

My favorite columnist (and blazers fan!) over at ESPN wrote a passionate plea to his readers to watch FNL this season. You can find the wonderful article here.

Does anyone have any ideas on how we could make sure that FNL stays on this season?

I just got into this show and watched all of the episodes over a week period. If this show leaves television, I will have no faith in hollywood at all. How can we get the ratings up on this show? I have been telling everyone far and wide to watch the show. I even talked about the show like I was on it at Thanksgiving and I am 27 years old!

PLEASE SAVE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! I LOVE this show. It is so real. The writing and acting are wonderful. I love all the different story lines. It is an example of American life. Please, NBC, don’t cancel this show. It’s so good. I feel like I’m living in Texas with them when I watch. NBC, you have cancelled 2 of my favorite shows already……American Dreams and Third Watch. I vowed not to get hooked on this one because I didn’t want you to cancel it once I feel in love with it. I couldn’t resist. Please, prove me wrong. Why do you cancel everything? 6 million viewers is a lot. Every other show is about murder and dead bodies. Can’t we have something wholesome for once? We need a wholesome show. Please, I beg you!!!!

This is a great show to watch with you teen age children (I have a 17 year old) and we talk about everything on the show because these things happen in high school and in life Its a great way to talk about things that happen on the show and relate it to real life lessons, with your children. Jason’s injury, sex, drugs, religion, murder, rape, jealously, love, hate, and those Friday Night Lights!!

What are they going to do now that FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS has used up their second season episodes? (Unfortunately, we have the writers’ strike to thank for these episodes or I have a feeling, the network would have pulled FRIDAY mid season!) Are they going to leave us hanging regarding the fates of the people we have known and loved? Our entire family watches this show and we all think that FRIDAY got a bum rap by the station from the start. Whatever happened to the promotionals they promised to juice up FRIDAY’s ratings? Whenever I praise the merits of the show, people answer, “Oh, that football show?” I have to explain that the show is primarily a show for PEOPLE about PEOPLE- not just for football fans!(more evidence of poor marketing!) I must admit that I, too, was almost turned off by the very first episode of FRIDAY because of it’s poor camera techniques (I nearly got seasick with all the moving and hand held camera choppiness.) But on a second try, I fell in love with the characters and have never looked back. (P.S. The camera work during the duration has smoothed out considerably.) What is not to like here? The most beautiful women on t.v., great character actors, wonderful story lines and substance! C’mon, guys! If you can’t give us another season, at least finish what you started in Season 2. Don’t disappoint us!

For some of us who have already lived those highschool years and are now raising children of our own it is like reliving our youth through the show. Please don’t cancel it, my Friday Nights would be very dim without it.

Getting rid of Studio 60 and trying to replace it with the Black Donnelly’s was not a good move by NBC. Cancelling Friday Night Lights would be a terrible move by the network. True, friday is not the best night to have the show on, but we can work through that. Takeing the show off the air would be a HUGE mistake by the network. This show rocks, and takeing it off the air would be STUPID. It amazes me that the network would want to do somthing like this. Move the show to Tuesday night, when nothing else is showing so the show won’t have to compete for rateings and the rateings WILL go up. This show is wonderfull and about so much more than football, although the football is a nice perk. SAVE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!!!!!

FNL is more than a TV show. The impact of this program on our family is unlike any other TV program. As others have said, we too feel like we know the characters. We look forward to watching it every week. FNL is about all that is familiar — a high school, a town, families, teen survival, day to day moral struggles, and human frailties. Although we don’t live in Texas, Dillon is anywhere USA. PLEASE continue this amazing program. It is a truly wonderful peek into American society and represents the best in American television.

One thing TV does so poorly these days is to define and develop characters…and FNL does this better than any show on TV. The residents of Dillon are as real as can be; they are the people who live and work with us in our own communities. The quality of the scripts and the ability of the actors to interpret them is what sets this show apart. Please, NBC, do the right thing and give this show more of a chance to build the audience.

FNL is the best show I’ve seen in a long time. The only problem is you are airing a show about Texas High School Football on Friday. Every able bodied person, regardless of age, is at a Friday night football game!! I tape it because my I am at the games with my 15 year old grandson, who also loves the show, and we watch it together the next day. Please do not take that show off the air and replace it with either a violent police show or another reality show.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr….I hate NBC. First you take Kidnapped, then you take Studio 60…and now FNL. It’s like you look for great shows that you can cancel. FNL had great characters, plots, and very good conflicts. An then you want to complain about ratings…someone at NBC needs help!!! They put a show that was gaining ratings and that is structured around the largest profit grossing sport in AMERICA! (that’s football by the way.) on a Friday. Unless you never went to a highschool football game in your life or HIGHSCHOOL for that matter…you would know that all those games are played on Friday! Putting a show about Highschool football on tv on a day that High school football games are being watched live is just STUPID. Mainstream media in America sucks and the rating system in America needs to be strongly looked at and fixed! It shouldn’t be up to the 300 random households that get selected what the rest of America watches on tv. Unless–this is part of NBC’s way of helping us loose weight and exercise more! Well then yes–Thank you! I will go read a book and go play some football instead of wasting my time with you stupid network!!!

For once there is a show that is funny, serious, deals with realistic issues of parents, teens, family is well written and produced and you have sabatoged it with the crazy time slot schedule you have done over the past two seasons!!! Don’t put it up against Amer. Idol - hellllloooo? no show does well in that time slot up against that show…and on Friday night??? hellllooooo? All us booster club parents are AT THE GAME til 10 pm!!! You owe this show a proper time slot and you owe the creators, writers, cast and Fans a REAL chance and positioning to see how great the show can be. And if you want to increase viewers without spending money, try some grass roots, online marketing and some street teams at local football games across this great nation!! Facebook / myspace fan pages..win a chance for Riggins to be a guest judge at your cheerleading competition, something!!! And that ’s free advice from a marketing exec, football mom & FNL FAN!!! With all the crap programming and reality shows that are rotting the minds of our young folks, please keep something that actually has some substance and life lessons. I have watched every episode of season 2 on-demand at 99cent an episode and I will soon by the DVD’s to contribute to the cause…

It must be a good show to have this affect on a 31 year old mother of two. I haven’t been this crazy about a show since Beverly Hills 90210!!! It takes me back to my high school days and makes me feel young again. Please don’t cancle..Just move it to a better time slot. I work with 25 women and it’s all we talk about each week. It’s disappointing that another quality TV show is in danger of being cancelled. I refuse to watch reality TV. It’s insulting. Friday Night Lights is well-written, photographed in a unique way with great music. Its story lines show imagination and give a vivid picture of the culture of a small Texas town and the world of high school football there. The characters are believable, impeccably acted, and well-developed - we care about them - and that’s a sign of good TV show or film. There has to be a place on the TV schedule for quality shows whose ratings may not be high, but which have a loyal following of viewers. The number of shows I regularly watch gets smaller every year because well-written shows have become more and more rare. Please save FNL!!

the quality of “friday Night Lights” has never been questioned by me, i have been a faithful watcher since it first aired. as someone who has been involved with high school sports for most of my life, the show’s writers (now that they are back at work) have portrayed a very good portrayal of small-town high school football as the religion that it can truly be during the fall. please, NBC, do not deny the viewing public such a well-done show.

My measure of a show is determined by whether i am upset when an episode is missed. If that happens i frantically call all of my people who tune in because i have turned them on this little gem. This is our coffebreak show. It has strong identifiable characters, realistic storylines and great subtle acting. My week isn’t complete without it.NBC should consider carefully when making a decision about its status, because it is only one of the three shows we follow on this station. The other two (the office and 30 rock) we began to follow after seeing the ads while viewing FNL. I have yet to return to regular tv viewing since the strike. This show will compel me to return.
